Change, McCain-Style
Maybe John McCain was being truthful when at his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, he said "change is coming." McCain said also
I know some of you have been left behind in the changing economy and it often seems your government hasn't even noticed. Government assistance for unemployed workers was designed for the economy of the 1950s. That's going to change on my watch.
Senator McCain is now on the record as seemingly opposed to unemployment insurance. He also is on the record as opposing Social Security, having declared at a town hall meeting in Portsmouth, Ohio in July, 2008:
Americans have got to understand that we are paying present-day retirees with the taxes paid by young workers ... and that's a disgrace.
So John McCain does believe in change. Radical change. Change that harms the unemployed and the elderly.
